Plans to turn former mill into flats with penthouse
PLANS have been revealed to convert a former mill building into apartments.
The scheme, by T Cooper and Co (Macclesfield) Limited, involves the warehouse on Hobson Street, Macclesfield. The proposals are to transform the building into four apartments.
According to the plans, the building has been used commercially for 200 years. The flats will range in size – and include a penthouse at the top.
The agent, Architectural Planning Partnership, said the change of use would be welcome in the area, adding: “To adapt a site that has outlived its original and recent uses, being an unwelcome neighbour, and converting it to much-needed smaller, affordable urban residential accommodation would be of beneficial balance for potential and local residents alike. It would also retain, for generations, a semblance of Macclesfield’s silk industry heritage in the townscape.”
Macclesfield Civic Society, which promotes the preservation of local heritage, said the conversion ‘would make a useful contribution to the stock of smaller dwellings in this part of the town’.
