Name: Ste­wart Vann. Which or­gan­i­sa­tion are you in­volved with?: SUSO (Speak­ing Up Speak­ing Out). What do you do there?: Gen­eral vol­un­teer­ing, help­ing and in­ter­act­ing with the ‘drop­per in­ners’ in var­i­ous ac­tiv­i­ties. How did you be­come a vol­un­teer?: I wanted to do vol­un­teer work on my re­tire­ment. My daugh­ter-in-law told me vol­un­teers were needed at SUSO – I ap­plied and was ac­cepted. What is your favourite place in Mac­cles­field?: Water­stones. Ide­ally how would you spend ev­ery day?: As pro­duc­tively and plea­sur­ably as pos­si­ble. What was the best hol­i­day you have been on?: I have en­joyed many hol­i­days, I could not name a favourite. What one piece of ad­vice would you give?: Use your two ears, more than your one mouth. What was your first job?: For a very short time an ap­pren­tice printer, but my main oc­cu­pa­tion was in the fire ser­vice where I had a long, sat­is­fy­ing and rea­son­ably suc­cess­ful ca­reer. What is on your MP3 player?: An eclec­tic mix­ture from Bach, to Billy Hol­i­day to The Bea­tles. What is your favourite TV show?: Eg­gheads. What are you read­ing at the mo­ment?: The Great Pur­suit by Tom Sharpe. What is your big­gest in­spi­ra­tion?: I can­not name one, there have been many in var­i­ous sce­nar­ios. Who would you like to in­vite to din­ner?: Ge­orge Or­well, J.F.
