Golden cycle couple reveal birth of first child
OLYMPIC cycling champions Laura and Jason Kenny have announced the birth of their first baby.
Laura Kenny, nee Trott, posted a picture of Albert Louie Kenny on Instagram along with herself, husband Jason Kenny and their dogs Sprolo and Pringle.
She said Albert was born late on Wednesday, a week after his due date.
Laura posted: “Welcome to the world little Albert Louie Kenny. 23/08/17 8lb 12.5oz. You kept us waiting a week but it was all worth it.”
The couple, who live in Macclesfield, have 10 Olympic gold medals between them.
Laura, 25, has already declared her intention to compete at a third Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2020 but will not rush back to the sport.
She will miss the Track Cycling World Championships in Apeldoorn, Holland, in March next year and the Commonwealth Games on Australia’s Gold Coast the following month.
Speaking earlier this year, she said: “I want to enjoy time at home with Jason and the new baby and start when I feel ready, rather than when I feel like I have to be ready.”
The couple, who married in September last year, announced the news they were expecting by posting a picture on Instagram of a child’s bike alongside their own. They also took to social media to announce their wedding, which they had kept secret from fans.
They got hitched at the 175-year-old St Alban’s Church in Macclesfield, 20 minutes from their home in Chelford, and had their reception at the Hilltop Country House in Prestbury.
The hotel posted images of the happy couple sharing their first dance on social media, with Olympic legend Chris Hoy looking on in the background.
The pair who visited Buckingham Palace earlier this year to receive their CBEs have 10 Olympic gold medals, with Jason, 29, equalling the highest number held by a British athlete at six.
Laura is Britain’s most successful woman Olympian of all time.
