Macclesfield Express - - GCSE RESULTS - STUART GREER

MACCLESFIELD Academy students Colin Midgely and Andrea Ciocoi scaled the heights and achieved the new Grade 9- the highest possible grade- in Maths and English respectively.

Colin and Andrea were among almost 20 per cent of pupils who achieved grade 7 or above in English and/or maths and almost 70 per cent who gained the new grade 4 or above, which is considered the standard pass in English and/or maths.

Staff at the Academy, which topped the Cheshire East ‘value added and progress tables’ in 2015 and 2016, were celebrating the achievement of a wide range of students who had made excep- tional progress from their starting point at 11.

Among those who had excelled in this respect were Mya Tomlinson, Fraser Maddocks, Molly Rowbotham, Lucy Graves, Yzsnjoy Perez, Tobias Davidson, Abby Walker and Andrea Ciocoi.

The Academy’s unique curriculum structure means that many Year 9 and Year 10 students have also completed either one or two GCSE courses.

Thirteen year 9 students achieved grades A and A* including A*s for Katie Vaughan in History and Martha Noakes in Music.

Thirty six year tens achieved the top grades including A*s for Becky Meehan (Photograhy), Kacie Lawton and Amy Reed (Drama), Rob Rowson (Computer Science) and Maddie Burton (Spanish and Music).
