BOLLINGTON Horticultural Society and Flower Club has held its 53rd annual show.

Once again the room was full of beautiful flower arrangements, seasonal vegetables and the vivid colours of autumn flowers, such as crocosmia, fuchsia, phlox and canna lily.

Vice-president, Sheila Cutler presented the prizes. Joe Wainwright won a well-deserved Junior Cup for his clever and imaginative entries in the children’s section, and his brother, Sam, was a close runner-up.

There were a large num- ber of bonsai exhibited and visitors were tempted by entries in the baking and wine-making sections as well as trying delicious homemade cakes in the refreshment area – always a highlight of the show.

Angela Barnshaw won the George Rowbotham Cup for most points by a horticultural society member, along with several other cups.

She said: “What a wonderful show. I never thought I’d win all this. I’d encourage any other amateurs, like myself, to enter.”

The society’s next show is on March 10, with the emphasis on spring bulbs and flowers. Enquiries can be made to Joyce Burton on 01625 572668.
