Lisa throws herself into fundraising

-

EAST Cheshire Hospice community fundraiser Lisa Ball knows how to push herself to the limit.

Not only will Lisa take part in her first-ever 5k run as part of the Macclesfield Half Marathon next week, but she is also willing to throw herself out of a plane from 10,000 feet.

Lisa, 22, joins her work colleague Mike Hyland at Tilstock Freefall Club in Shropshire early on Saturday morning for her tandem freefall dive which has already raised more than £500 for the Hospice.

The jump was the idea of local businessman Colin Knight, who offered two places to the Hospice to help raise muchneeded funds. Lisa said: “I have skydived once before, about three years ago, loved it and immediately volunteered to do it again.

“It’s a great adrenalin rush – only this time I hope to try and keep my eyes open!”

Colin Knight of Tytherington will also be skydiving on the day to raise funds for the Child Brain Injury trust in memory of his 61-year-old wife Csilla, who died of a blood clot to the brain just minutes after getting off a holiday flight from Dubai earlier this year.

“I’ve always been a bit of a daredevil and my wife always encouraged me in this. I’ve raced fast cars and abseiled before but this is something different.” said Colin, 67.

“I’m not too worried about it as I’m the sort of person who likes to enjoy life’s adventures.”

Colin, a director of Reclaim Your PPI based in Waters Green House in Macclesfield, has offered to double up all the monies raised by Lisa and Mike to a maximum of £1000.

And not content with her skydiving activity, Lisa hopes to add to her total fundraising total by running 5K in the Macclesfield Half Marathon on Sunday, September 24.

“At the start of this year, I promised myself that I’d take up running – something I’ve never been really able to do as I am asthmatic” says Lisa.

“Now I’m much fitter and hope to complete the run in 35 minutes.”

Lisa will have plenty of companionship on the run from four of her colleagues who are also taking part. Joining Lisa will be Hospice apprentice Katy Dewar, events manager Jo Boyd, education and development co-ordinator Alicia Whittaker and Clair Goad from the medical team at the hospice.
