Wilson returns with big impact

SCOTT Wilson says his winning goal for Macclesfield Town on Saturday was made extra special due to the fact he had been missing from the team in recent weeks.

Wilson got the only goal of the game in the match against Solihull Moors to help the side pick up a 1-0 victory at Damson Park.

It was his first start for Macc since the game against Gateshead last month, and he was glad to show everybody just what he is capable of when in the team.

“It was great for me to get on the scoresheet, especially with me being out of the starting line-up for a while,” he told the club’s official website.

“Obviously since my last start at Gateshead, the team has played really well and opportunities have been limited.

“Now, though, I’m glad to have got back in and contributed in a victory for the team.

“It’s an excellent feeling to contribute. Of course, it’s always frustrating when you’re not playing, but all you can do is train hard and try and make the right impressions to get back into the team and I’ve had my chance now.”

Wilson’s goal came just a few minutes after goalkeeper Shwan Jalal saved a penalty for Macclesfield at the other end, and the striker believes the chain of events shows just how mentally strong his team are.

“It shows great character to capitalise on them moments in games,” he said.

“Obviously, I had a role to play in the penalty because I made a mistake on the halfway line. Thankfully Shwan was on hand to redeem that and we bounced back to take all three points.

“I’m just glad I got the opportunity to make the most of it and, in the end, win the lads the game.”
