NURSING staff and a police officer told the court of the impact of Roberts’ attack.

Lisa Naden suffered ‘soreness to her head’ during the initial assault at Macclesfield hospital.

Nurse Nicole Constantina, who came to help her colleague, was left with bruising and pain around her stomach when Roberts gripped her.

In a statement read out in court Ms Constantina said: “I was just trying to help her.

“I come to work to help people not be assaulted.

“I have never met such a vile lady.

“This happened when we were very busy and there lots of very ill people around.”

Gillian Beach, a nurse at Middlewich custody suite, said she was ‘shocked’ when the defendant spat at her.

Sarah Heaps, a police officer, told the court in a statement that she was ‘thrown off balance momentarily’ when she was hit.

She said: “It was a massive blow to the back of the head. It could have only been caused by a close fist.

“It caused immediate pain. I suffered from headaches and my vision was affected.”
