MACCLESFIELD Town defender Jared Hodgkiss insists the team will be staying grounded despite sitting top of the National League table.

The Silkmen are one point clear of second placed Dover Athletic after winning nine of their 15 matches so far this season.

Hodgkiss is pleased with how his side have performed over the past month, but says it is too early in the season to be getting carried away with themselves.

“Teams are going to look at us and think that we’re doing pretty well, but at the end of the day, it’s only October,” he told the club’s official website.

“There’s a big difference between being top now and in April.

“We’ve got to take confidence from it but we’ve got to make sure we keep our feet on the ground as well.

“We’ve got a great chance to build a run, and if we’re not going into games with confidence now, when we’re top of the league, then we’re never going to be.”

Hodgkiss joined Macclesfield from Kidderminster Harriers in the summer and has now cemented himself a place in the starting line-up having been forced to miss the first 11 games of the season through injury.
