MP’s praise for garden centre
STAFF at a community garden centre have impressed an MP after a recent a visit.
David Rutley, MP for Macclesfield, visited the Macclesfield Community Garden Centre to learn more about their social enterprise.
The garden centre offers adults with learning difficulties the opportunity to learn knew skills, while gaining valuable work experience.
Over time, the trainees are given more responsibility within the garden centre. It also boasts a shop which is open to the public daily between 10am and 3pm.
All of the items in the shop have been grown or made by the centre’s trainees. All the money raised in the shop is re-invested in the social enterprise.
David said: “I was very impressed to see the continued good work being done at Macclesfield Community Garden Centre to help its trainees develop their potential, learn new skills and gain the confidence they need to live happy and more independent lives. I will continue to actively support this important social enterprise, which is a real asset to the local community, going forward.”
