Primary school’s nursery welcomes its first students

-

NEW nursery facilities at Mottram St Andrew Primary Academy have been formally opened by Macclesfield MP David Rutley.

Pupils, parents, staff and governors, including new headteacher Miss Jean Willerton and the former headteacher, Mrs Christine Bowen, were present for the special occasion.

Three teaching assistants have been recruited to staff the nursery and look after the 17 nursery pupils, under the experienced leadership of the current Reception teacher, Caroline Richmond.

The nursery class learns alongside the Reception class, helping the children to develop communication and social skills, and make new friends.

A highlight for the class is the weekly ‘welly walk’ and all the nursery children enjoy these fun excursions.

Currently, there are morning and afternoon classes, running from 8.45am to 11.45am and 12.15pm to 3.15pm.

The nursery is also open for the school’s breakfast club, for lunch and until after-school clubs finish, at 6pm.

Parts of the nursery development were made possible by a grant of £7,000 from the Beech Hall School Trust in Tytherington.

Speaking after the opening, Mr Rutley said: “It was great to meet Miss Willerton and her colleagues and to congratulate them on a successful start to the school year for Mottram St Andrew Primary’s new nursery.

“I was impressed to hear about the range of activities the nursery is providing to help the children’s development at this crucial stage in their lives.

“I wish all at the school well for the school year ahead.”
