MACCLESFIELD Town boss John Askey has backed his side to be up there challenging for promotion come the end season.
The Silkmen recovered from back to back league defeats by picking up a 2-0 of the victory at Barrow on Saturday, with Jared Hodgkiss and Elliot Durrell getting the goals for the visitors.
It leaves Macc in second place in the National League table, just one point behind top of the table Dover Athletic, and Askey wants his team to keep playing at their best.
“Our form is good in regard to points and if we keep performing like we did on Saturday, then we’re likely to win games and continue to be as high as we can in the table,” he said.
“Whoever we play, if we play to our potential and put our chances away, we are more than a match for anybody.
“Hopefully we can keep doing that and push on.
“The position we are in is very pleasing at this time of the season but it will count for nothing unless we are there at the end of the season.”
Macclesfield were in control throughout the game against Barrow over the weekend, and Askey was pleased with his team’s efforts.
“We caused them a lot of problems. It really was a great team performance. Going forward we always looked like we had a goal in us, and we looked like we could score every time we went forward on Saturday,” he said.
“Obviously, I didn’t expect it to be Jared who scored first, but again it was another well-worked goal. An excellent team goal to score.
“I think we kept the ball for about 15 passes in that move, with Jared getting a give and go with Danny (Whitaker) to get in the position to score. It was just what we’d needed after recent results.”
Askey had made a number of changes from the team that had played Forest Green Rovers in the FA Cup the previous week, and he admits it is nice having options available to him.
He said: “It’s not a headache! It’s a nice position to be in, if we do get a couple of injuries in certain positions we could do with strengthening but more or less everyone is fit so it is a good situation to have.”
Up next for Macclesfield is a home game against Boreham Wood on Saturday.
