Shoppers set for free wi-fi
SHOPPERS are now able to access the internet for free right across Macclesfield town centre.
Macclesfield Town Council has announced free WiFi access, following two years of work to enhance public spaces.
Visitors and workers will be able to get onto the web in all pedestrianised areas, including Sunderland Street, Park Green, Waters Green, Mill Street and Chestergate.
Town Clerk for Macclesfield, Pet Turner, has welcomed the announcement, which he hopes will make the town centre more attractive to visitors.
He said: “The council is working at adding value to the town centre’s regeneration through public realm and access improvement projects. For example, recently we have installed decorative lighting to support the evening economy, begun promoting Macclesfield as a destination for a wide variety of outdoor activities.”
The council said it will use the new system to provide them with anonymous information on visitor numbers, which will help identify areas for attention and consideration. There will be no time limit for wi-fi and users will have to sign up for the service.
