Prestbury fall well short of Barnton tally

- GEOFF LIVESLEY

BARNTON played host to Prestbury and having won the toss, the home side decided to bat only to lose an early wicket when Paul Butterworth had Whalley (1) caught by wicketkeeper Stu Costello.

Coot and Malley took the score to 39 when Butterworth had the latter lbw. Aqeel Ahmed came on as first change and got the wicket of Coot for 29, caught by Cameron Graham, with the score on 61.

Barnton rallied and took the total to 106 before Prestbury claimed another wicket, Cameron Kirkland having Hodgkinson caught by Costello for 16.

That brought Flanagan to the wicket and, with Aussie Connop, took the score to 205.

Having reached 56, Flanagan was caught by Costello off the bowling of Butterworth and at the end of 45 overs, Barnton were 214-5 with Connop 75 not out. Wicket takers for Prestbury were Butterworth 3 for 54, Ahmed 1 for 29 and Kirkland 1 for 38

It meant Prestbury had yet another big score to chase and they lost an early wicket when Steve Oldfield (1) was out.

Stu Burnell was striking the ball well and he and Kirkland took the score to 48 before the former was out for a good 41.

Ahmed (8) joined Kirkland but was soon out caught. Kirkland was digging in , but lost new batsman Bryn Thompson (10). Tom Livesley came to the wicket and was given out first ball to a dubious lbw decision, so Prestbury were struggling at 85 for 5.

Soon, Kirkland was out for a hard worked 21 off 54 balls and the score was 90 for 7 as Ben Oakes was out for 13. At 107, the eighth wicket fell when Costello (1) was out, and at the same score Sam Gilding (4) was out.

Butterworth joined Graham and they used seven overs up, but in the 37th over Graham was stumped and the innings closed at 131.

Graham made 16 leaving Butterworth 1 not out.

Man of the match for Prestbury Stu Burnell.
