College to offer T-levels

MACCLESFIE­LD College has been announced as among the third wave of further education providers to offer T-Levels.

The college will deliver the two year courses, designed to be a technical post 16 alternativ­e to A-Levels, from September 2022.

Courses will combine classroomb­ased study with practical learning and industry placement with a local employer of at least 315 hours.

T-Levels were originally announced by former Secretary of State for Education, Damian Hinds in June 2019 and the first wave will begin in September this year.

Subject areas include constructi­on, digital production, design and developmen­t and education and childcare and by 2022 there will be a total of 18 different types.

Learners who complete their T-Level will receive an overall grade of pass, merit, distinctio­n or distinctio­n*.

Rachel Kay, college principal and chief executive, said: “To be chosen as an official T-Level provider is wonderful news for us all.

“T-Levels are centred on optimising the delivery of technical education throughout the country and, from our point view, they will help us to reinforce our position as a leading further education, apprentice­ships and training provider in East Cheshire.”
