‘Stand up for the 22’ chanted as Devils score poignant try

-

THERE was a hugely poignant moment at Salford Red’s AJ Bell stadium – after a try was scored on the 22nd minute.

Kris Welham, the Red Devils’ number 22, managed to score against the Catalan Dragons as the clock ticked into the 22nd minute,

It prompted the crowd to stand up and deliver a rapturous round of applause and accompanying ‘stand up for the 22’ chant around the stadium.

The entry for the long-arranged match had been made free following Monday’s disaster by club bosses.

Instead, those attending the match were asked to make a donation towards the appeal to help victims and their families. Around 5,000 packed out the Salford stadium – singing rousing anthems including the Oasis track Don’t Look Back in Anger from the stands.
