Car torched in ar­son at­tack

A SE­RIES of ar­son at­tacks have been re­ported to po­lice, with a car the lat­est to be tar­geted.

Fire­fight­ers were called to Vic­to­ria Av­enue, Hazel Grove, in the early hours of Thurs­day morn­ing when a sil­ver Peu­geot 407 was torched.

The pre­vi­ous night it had its win­dow smashed – and it was left badly dam­aged in the blaze.

Crews from Of­fer­ton were sent to the scene at around 2.20am and said there has been an in­crease in de­lib­er­ate fires in the Queens Road and Vic­to­ria Av­enue area in the past two months.

Another car was set alight and a fur­ther five in­ci­dents have seen pal­lets or bins tar­geted.

Steve Johnstone, watch man­ager at Of­fer­ton fire sta­tion, said: “The car was tar­geted the night be­fore and had its win­dow bro­ken, and there has been a se­ries of ar­son in­ci­dents.

“The po­lice have been in­formed and our preven­tion depart­ment will be look­ing at these in­ci­dents.”
