Car torched in arson attack
A SERIES of arson attacks have been reported to police, with a car the latest to be targeted.
Firefighters were called to Victoria Avenue, Hazel Grove, in the early hours of Thursday morning when a silver Peugeot 407 was torched.
The previous night it had its window smashed – and it was left badly damaged in the blaze.
Crews from Offerton were sent to the scene at around 2.20am and said there has been an increase in deliberate fires in the Queens Road and Victoria Avenue area in the past two months.
Another car was set alight and a further five incidents have seen pallets or bins targeted.
Steve Johnstone, watch manager at Offerton fire station, said: “The car was targeted the night before and had its window broken, and there has been a series of arson incidents.
“The police have been informed and our prevention department will be looking at these incidents.”
