Baroness goes back to school

Manchester Evening News - - NEWS -

PUPILS and staff at a school welcomed a very special guest to the opening of its new site.

Hulme Hall Grammar School in Stockport has moved to the site of the former Hillcrest School in Cale Green, as the 1960s buildings at its former location in Cheadle Hulme are no longer fit for purpose.

Before it housed Hillcrest, the site was the home of Stockport High School for Girls, which is the alma mater of well-known journalist and TV presenter Baroness Joan Bakewell.

The Labour Party peer, 84, was welcomed back to officially open the new school, and speak to the staff and pupils.

Tim Lowe, chairman of governors at Hulme Hall, said: “It went very well indeed.

“She is an amazing woman. Her memory is so sharp and clear.”
