Henrikh makes vow to supporters

Manchester Evening News - - SPORT - By ALICE McKEEGAN

HENRIKH Mkhitaryan has vowed to do his best to score – and create – more goals for United this season.

In an upbeat message to supporters, he described how he wants to bring joy to fans and is aiming for even more throughout the new campaign.

Mkhitaryan enjoyed an encouraging pre-season and served up five assists in his first three Premier League games but was unlucky not to match Thierry Henry and Cesc Fabregas’ Premier League record of six in the opening four games against Stoke last weekend.

Unfortunately, one for Romelu Lukaku – which would have been his sixth of the season – was chalked off as goalkeeper Jack Butland saved the initial shot following Mkhitaryan’s pass, before the big Belgian tucked away the rebound.

In a revealing interview with magazine Armenian Soldier, translated into English by VbetNews, the 28-year-old said: “To be honest, I don’t think those five assists should excite me.

“There are still many games remaining. I have to do my best to score more goals and provide more assists. I enjoy my football and want to bring more joy to the fans, too.”

Mkhitaryan also revealed in the interview he doesn’t have a football idol – but his favourite player as a child was Zinedine Zidane.
