Raider jailed after ‘despicable’ robbery
A ROBBER who threatened an elderly woman at knifepoint in her home has been jailed.
Police said the woman, who is aged in her 60s, dropped to her knees and pleaded with Darren Bradford not to hurt her.
He escaped with just a small amount of cash, a laptop, jewellery and a mobile phone.
Bradford, 42, of Town Mill Brow, Rochdale, was found guilty of aggravated burglary after a trial at Manchester’s Minshull Street Crown Court and jailed for 11 years. Detectives called his crime ‘despicable’.
Wearing a ski mask, Bradford knocked at the front door of the woman’s home on Further Heights Road in Rochdale.
Police said he immediately lunged at her then held the knife to her throat as he forced her back into the living room.
Detective Constable Russell Clarke said: “This was a particularly distressing incident and the trauma he caused was despicable.”
