A WOMAN was airlifted to hospital after falling at a Rochdale beauty spot.

The 59-year-old injured her back after she fell 16ft down banking at Greenbooth reservoir, near Norden, yesterday.

Volunteers from Rossendale and Pendle and Bolton mountain rescue teams used a stretcher to carry her to safety, where a helicopter was waiting to take her to Royal Blackburn Hospital.

RPMRT said: “The lady was suffering acute lower spine pain and lower side pain. It was decided we were to use the stretcher to get the casualty to a clearing where Helimed was en route to land. We’d like to thank teammates at Bolton Mountain Rescue Team for their assistance with carrying the casualty up a very tight, slippy and treacherous path which tested our teams.

“Today’s callout presented a number of challenges where clear leadership and combined skills won the day!”
