School warning as man ‘takes photos of girls’
ANOTHER warning has been issued to schools and parents after a man was reportedly seen taking photos of young girls in the street.
In recent weeks there have been more than half a dozen ‘suspicious incidents’ involving children across Greater Manchester.
On Tuesday, St Antony’s Catholic College, in Urmston, shared an alert from colleagues at Stretford Grammar which said a group of girls had been ‘watched’ by a man as they made their way to school that morning.
He had been pointing a phone towards them, and appeared to take a photo of them, before driving away in a Ford Fiesta.
School bosses said the man was around 6ft and of mixed race. He was wearing a black and grey hoodie, with the hood up.
The warning read: “Six year eight girls were coming to school and were near the Quadrant at the top of Kings Road/Stretford.
“There was a man outside the local store and he had his phone pointed towards them and was watching them.
“They felt that he took a picture of them as they saw a flash. His car was a Ford Fiesta and students got his licence plate. When they got to the centre of the roundabout he got in his car and drove off.
“Form tutors have been alerted to speak with their students. This incident has been reported to the police.”
Earlier this week, police contacted schools in Trafford urging bosses to remind pupils about the risks of ‘stranger danger.’
They said a man had reportedly been following schoolgirls on foot, before ‘enticing’ them over and exposing himself. He then runs away from the scene. The incidents are said to have happened in Flixton and Urmston between 3.30pm and 7pm. Another warning was also issued following an incident in nearby Partington at the weekend, when a man pulled up alongside children playing in their garden before reportedly offering them doughnuts.
In Salford, a young boy fought off a man who tried to kidnap him in broad daylight on September 28, and five days later a man tried to ‘bundle’ a 12-year-old girl into his van in Rochdale.
Last Thursday two girls were harangued by a man in a silver pickup truck as they waited at a Stockport bus stop.
