Shock death of councillor
FLAGS will be flown at halfmast at Bolton town hall after the sudden death of a councillor.
Darren Whitehead represented the Hulton ward in Bolton for the Labour Party.
In a statement, Bolton’s Labour group said the party was ‘shocked and saddened’ by the news and confirmed Coun Whitehead passed away in the early hours of yesterday.
He was 49 and elected to the town hall in May last year.
The Labour group said: “In the short time he has been on the council he served his Hulton constituents with commitment and diligence.
“Darren was well respected across communities, not only in his ward but across the town with the charitable groups he supported.
“For anyone that knew him, even for the shortest time, the energy he would bring into every room he would walk into was tangible.
“He will be sadly missed by everyone that knew him and we will send our deepest condolences to his family and friends.”
The circumstances surrounding his death haven’t been revealed.
