Shock death of coun­cil­lor

FLAGS will be flown at half­mast at Bolton town hall af­ter the sud­den death of a coun­cil­lor.

Dar­ren White­head rep­re­sented the Hul­ton ward in Bolton for the Labour Party.

In a state­ment, Bolton’s Labour group said the party was ‘shocked and sad­dened’ by the news and con­firmed Coun White­head passed away in the early hours of yes­ter­day.

He was 49 and elected to the town hall in May last year.

The Labour group said: “In the short time he has been on the coun­cil he served his Hul­ton con­stituents with com­mit­ment and dili­gence.

“Dar­ren was well re­spected across com­mu­ni­ties, not only in his ward but across the town with the char­i­ta­ble groups he sup­ported.

“For any­one that knew him, even for the short­est time, the en­ergy he would bring into ev­ery room he would walk into was tan­gi­ble.

“He will be sadly missed by ev­ery­one that knew him and we will send our deep­est con­do­lences to his fam­ily and friends.”

The cir­cum­stances sur­round­ing his death haven’t been re­vealed.
