POLICE are investigating a spate of thefts targeting model reindeers.

Expensive figurines have been taken from a city centre shop and Christmas market stalls last week.

A thief first targeted a shop on Market Street and managed to walk off with a large silver reindeer statue, worth £130.

The second incident took place on Sunday when officers were called to a Christmas market stall also on Market Street.

A man was seen browsing items at the stall at around 9.20pm.

He then picked up two large reindeer models from the stall and walked off with them.

It is not known how much the models are worth.

Greater Manchester Police were called to both incidents and an investigation has been launched.

A tweet from the GMP City Centre account said: “Tis the season...to steal reindeers?

“After the shoplifting of a large silver reindeer worth £120 last week, we’ve had an overnight report of 2 large reindeers taken from a Christmas market stall.”
