Crash driver cut free from car
A DRIVER was cut free from a vehicle after a crash on the motorway.
Emergency crews from Withington, Wythenshawe and Leigh were called to the M56 eastbound near Manchester Airport following the collision, which involved a car and a lorry.
The incident took place shortly after 2.30pm.
A technical response unit and major rescue unit were among the teams involved in the incident.
Traffic was held at a standstill on the eastbound carriageway and tailbacks formed while the crews worked to free the motorist from their vehicle.
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: “Firefighters used cutting equipment and stabilisation equipment to rescue the driver from one of the vehicles, who was then taken to hospital. Crews remained at the scene for 45 minutes.”
The rescued driver’s condition is not yet known.
