Major headache for Hill as injury and illness strike

- LEAGUE ONE PREVIEW By SHELDAN KEAY @MENSports

ROCHDALE boss Keith Hill admits he has major selection problems ahead of today’s game against Gillingham at the Priestfield Stadium.

The Dale squad have been suffering with injury and illness this week, and Hill says it has given him a selection headache.

“We’ve had a difficult week, from Doncaster onwards. We’ve had injuries and illness – recurring injuries and long-term injuries are sprouting up – although I can’t go into too much detail,” he said.

“It just seems that everything is hitting the wall at this moment in time and we can’t do anything about it. It has come out of nowhere.

“We played the game at Doncaster and then within the course of the week there’s all sorts of things happening. This is where my job is more than just being a manager.”

OLDHAM ATHLETIC manager Richie Wellens is still desperate to sign a striker – but admits any potential deal for Jonson Clarke-Harris will have to wait until after this weekend.

Latics are back in action today as they look to end their poor run of form when they welcome Rotherham United to Boundary Park.

Wellens has been keen to add a striker to his squad ever since the transfer window opened, with Rotherham striker Clarke-Harris a potential signing.

With the two teams facing off with each other today, Wellens says he’ll have to hold off on his pursuit of ClarkeHarris for now, but would be open to bringing in the 23-year-old after this weekend.

“We play Rotherham this weekend so nothing will happen before then, but I’ve played with him and he’s been at Oldham before, and he’s a powerhouse of a player,” he said.

“He is a really good talent. He’s not got as many games as he’d have liked at Rotherham, so it’s one we’ll look at but at the moment he won’t be in for the weekend.”

Bottom of the table BURY will hope to finally end their poor run when they welcome Charlton Athletic to Gigg Lane. The Shakers are 11 points adrift from safety and have lost their past six league games in a row – and have failed to score in their past seven league outings.

Today’s opponents, Charlton, are in eighth place, one point outside the playoffs.

League leaders WIGAN ATHLETIC will try to extend their lead at the top of the table as they host Peterborough United at the DW Stadium.

Wigan have been given a boost ahead of the game after signing striker James Vaughan from Championship side Sunderland on an 18-month deal.

In the Championship, BOLTON WANDERERS can move further clear of the relegation zone when they face Brentford at Griffin Park.
