Guardiola expects Jesus injury return in ‘weeks’

- By JAMES ROBSON

GABRIEL Jesus has been give the all clear after fears he’d sustained cruciate knee ligament damage.

The Brazilian international visited knee specialist Dr Ramon Cugat in Barcelona this week for further tests on the injury he suffered against Crystal Palace on New Year’s Eve.

Despite an initial diagnosis stating Jesus had suffered collateral medial ligament damage, concerns were raised this week that he’d endured a much more serious injury.

But a check up at the Quironsalud hospital allayed those fears.

Guardiola confirmed: “Yesterday he was in Barcelona with Dr Cugat.

“At the end it was quite good. I think in two or three weeks, when we play Basel in the Champions League, he could be fit.

“He could be ready. I think in two or three weeks he’ll be ready, he’ll be with us again.”

But City are still waiting for Vincent Kompany to declare himself fit after his most recent calf injury, sustained last month.

Guardiola intends to sign a centre-back this month, following his captain’s continued fitness problems.

While his latest injury was not believed to be serious, he has not featured since the December 27 win at Newcastle – and is not expect to be involved against Liverpool tomorrow.

“Vincent not really fit and the others are quite well,” said Guardiola.
