THE family of a ‘loving son, father and brother’ killed in a Mother’s Day horror road smash has told of their heartbreak.

Matthew Horridge, 30, from Rochdale, was killed with his cousin Jordan Matthew, 22, when the Ford Focus they were in flipped over after hitting a parked car.

In a statement, his devastated family said: “Matthew was a loving, kind and happy person and he will be missed so, so much.

“He was a loving son, father and brother and we are truly devastated and heartbroken.”

Friends have also paid tribute to Matthew on social media. Artemis O’Neill wrote on Facebook: “Would just like to say RIP Matthew Horridge, so untimely and cruel. Your dad will be in bits and you will be missed by many with that cheeky grin that never left you from being a boy. You were a good lad. Rest easy.”

Rachael Dawn WinterburnWood posted: “Can’t believe what I’ve just heard. RIP Matthew Horridge, absolutely devastated.

“Such a nice guy, going to be missed dearly. Thoughts are also with Jordan’s family and friends.”

On Sunday, Jordan’s mum Kylie, 39, from Wardle, told of her heartbreak following the death of her only son. She revealed he was preparing to become a father.

“None of us can still believe it,” Kylie added. “I just feel empty. I want it all to be a dream. He was my only son.

“He had a heart of gold. He would do anything for anyone, especially his family.

“He was carefree and was always the life and soul of any group. He was so funny and would always make you laugh.

“We’ve been so overwhelmed at how many messages we’ve had.

“I think he’d be really proud seeing what people thought of him.”

Both Matthew, who was driving, and Jordan were taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital following the crash at around 1.30am on Todmorden Road, Bacup. They died a short time later.

Police are continuing to appeal for information.

Sgt Finn Quainton, from Lancashire Police road policing unit, said: “We need anyone who may have seen the Ford Focus car leading up to the collision to get in contact.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Lancashire police on 101, quoting incident reference 142 of march 11.
