month at the earliest. Potentially, he could play in two friendlies, against Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, before that season opener against Leicester on August 10.

Mourinho has already shown that he is patient with big-money additions from foreign leagues. Victor Lindelof was carefully introduced ‘step-by-step,’ Henrikh Mkhitaryan only started seven games in his first five months at the club.

But, unlike some signings down through the years, there is a very obvious role in mind for Fred on the right side of a midfield three. That will be great news for Pogba at a time when even Mourinho has acknowledge the Frenchman’s ‘great maturity’ while playing at the World Cup.

Pogba has shown remarkable tactical discipline for Les Bleus but Fred’s arrival will allow him to focus on what he does best - breaking from midfield and going for the ‘kill’ - and give United’s forwards the reliable service they need through the middle.

It could be the difference. UNITED have announced Kohler as their first ever shirt sleeve sponsor.

Described as ‘a global lifestyle brand’ based in Wisconsin, USA, the firm is known for its plumbing products for kitchens and bathrooms.

Kohler has agreed to a multi-year agreement with the club and their logo will feature on United’s three new Adidas shirts next season.

Dating app Tinder was rumoured to have been lined up as shirt sleeve sponsor last year but the club began the 2017-18 season without one. City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Everton and Chelsea already have shirt sleeve sponsors.

United managing director Richard Arnold said: “It is a pleasure to welcome Kohler to the United family. Our shirt is much more than what we wear, it embodies the passion of our fans and their allegiance to the club.”
