Pupils urged to walk in pairs
TEENAGERS are being urged to walk home in pairs after a 15-year-old girl was approached by a man in a car.
Police said the schoolgirl was ‘understandably upset’ after her latenight encounter with the man in the ‘suspicious vehicle’.
The girl was in the Bradfield Road and Humphrey Lane area of Urmston when she was stopped by a man in a small dark blue car.
The man asked her where she was going but the teenager ignored him and continued walking, police said. The man carried on speaking to her through his window, before driving off towards Humphrey Lane.
Officers urged parents in the area to ‘reiterate the importance of being vigilant now the dark nights are settling in’.
Pc Charlotte Tomkinson said: “Walk home in pairs if possible and plan your route home, preferably using well-lit roads and pathways.”
