Pupils urged to walk in pairs

TEENAGERS are be­ing urged to walk home in pairs af­ter a 15-year-old girl was ap­proached by a man in a car.

Po­lice said the school­girl was ‘un­der­stand­ably up­set’ af­ter her latenight en­counter with the man in the ‘sus­pi­cious ve­hi­cle’.

The girl was in the Brad­field Road and Humphrey Lane area of Urm­ston when she was stopped by a man in a small dark blue car.

The man asked her where she was go­ing but the teenager ig­nored him and con­tin­ued walk­ing, po­lice said. The man car­ried on speak­ing to her through his win­dow, be­fore driv­ing off to­wards Humphrey Lane.

Of­fi­cers urged par­ents in the area to ‘re­it­er­ate the im­por­tance of be­ing vig­i­lant now the dark nights are settling in’.

Pc Char­lotte Tomkin­son said: “Walk home in pairs if pos­si­ble and plan your route home, prefer­ably us­ing well-lit roads and path­ways.”
