A SOAP star has appeared in court to deny attacking a pensioner.

Emmerdale actor Mark Jordon, 53, appeared at Tameside magistrates court charged with wounding and common assault.

The actor, dressed in a casual blazer, trousers and trainers, pleaded not guilty to the charges, which relate to an alleged incident on July 1 in Oldham. A 67-year-old man was taken to hospital after reports he was attacked.

During the hearing, which lasted around 10 minutes, the prosecution said the case was too serious to stay in the magistrates court and should be sent to the crown court.

Mr Jordon, who plays Daz Spencer in the ITV soap, was bailed after the hearing and will next appear at Manchester’s Minshull Street Crown Court on December 6 for a preliminary hearing.

The actor, from Dobcross in Oldham, has also appeared in Heartbeat, Coronation Street and Casualty.
