Po­lice CCTV ap­peal af­ter shop rob­bery

PO­LICE have re­leased a CCTV im­age of a man they want to speak to af­ter a rob­ber at­tacked a newsagent while pre­tend­ing to be a cus­tomer.

A man ap­proached the counter of the McColl’s store on Wi­gan Road, in Ash­ton-in­Mak­er­field, and be­haved like a cus­tomer. How­ever, when the cashier opened the till to serve him the man as­saulted the staff mem­ber by shov­ing him back­wards. The rob­ber grabbed money from the till be­fore flee­ing from the shop.

CCTV footage shows the man en­ter­ing the store sev­eral times the same evening be­fore the as­sault and rob­bery took place at 10.10pm on Mon­day, Oc­to­ber 29.

Greater Manch­ester Po­lice have launched an in­ves­ti­ga­tion and have re­leased an im­age of a man they want to speak to in con­nec­tion with the in­ci­dent.

Det Con Peter Jack­son said: “We be­lieve the offender fre­quented the shop sev­eral times be­fore com­mit­ting this rob­bery, so there’s a good chance sev­eral peo­ple saw him. We have also re­leased the im­age of a man we be­lieve may have im­por­tant in­for­ma­tion on this crime. Do you recog­nise the man in the photo?
