UNITED have suf­fered an in­jury scare ahead of to­mor­row’s derby.

Paul Pogba is bat­tling to be fit af­ter miss­ing first-team train­ing yes­ter­day. It is un­der­stood the World Cup win­ner suf­fered a RAHEEM Ster­ling has spo­ken of his de­light af­ter be­ing handed a derby boost by sign­ing a new deal with City.

The Blues ace has penned a three-year con­tract ex­ten­sion which will keep him at the Eti­had Sta­dium un­til 2023.

Ster­ling has de­vel­oped him­self into a piv­otal fig­ure for City un­der the guid­ance of Pep Guardiola, and has been di­rectly in­volved in 40 Premier League goals since the start of last sea­son.

The 23-year-old has con­tin­ued his fine form this sea­son and will be one of City’s main weapons in ‘lit­tle in­jury’ dur­ing the Reds’ 2-1 win over Ju­ven­tus on Wed­nes­day night. Pogba worked on his own in­doors at the club’s Car­ring­ton train­ing ground, rais­ing con­cerns he could be a doubt for the match against City.

They could, how­ever, be to­mor­row’s derby at the Eti­had.

“I’m de­lighted to sign,” Ster­ling said. “My de­vel­op­ment here has been in­cred­i­ble.

“I felt from the minute I got here it was the right choice for me. It’s re­ally paid off for me and I’m re­ally grate­ful.

“Every sea­son you come in you want to do bet­ter than your pre­vi­ous sea­son. You want to try and de­velop and get bet­ter.

“With the fa­cil­i­ties we’ve got here there’s no rea­son not to.

“With the coach­ing staff and the play­ers we have in this team it’s the per­fect en­vi­ron­ment to de­velop and

bet­ter.” boosted by the re­turn of Romelu Lukaku from in­jury, with the Bel­gian striker un­der­go­ing a late fit­ness test ahead of the game.

Pogba played a piv­otal role for United last sea­son when they fought from be­hind to win 3-2 at the Eti­had.
