Mayor has to take control of our buses

Manchester Evening News - - LETTERS, COMMENTS AND EMAILS -

THANK-you to the M.E.N. for covering the story in relation to Mark Burton and his colleagues campaigning for better bus services.

I totally agree with their sentiments and campaign.

The bus services in Greater Manchester are a shambles, and the only winners are the fat cat shareholders from First, Arriva and Stagecoach.

The Mayor Andy Burnham has been in the post since May 2017. Bringing in the bus services bill was one this manifestos during his running for mayor. The Mayor needs to deliver on his promises and franchise the operators so he can set routes and fares.

I appreciate that Margaret Thatcher brought in deregulations of transport except for London, but a good and efficient bus service may convince people to leave their cars at home and consider public transport that in itself may alleviate some congestion.

Stephen Holt, North Manchester
