Lap dancing licence is renewed
LAP dancing club Baby Platinum’s licence has been renewed for another 12 months amid claims of ‘sexism and misogyny’.
A lawyer for the Princess Street venue defended the business after the Women’s Equality Party called for a ban on sexual entertainment venues (SEVs) in Manchester.
In a written statement to yesterday’s council licensing panel, party activist Sam Johnson said SEVs ‘perpetuate an attitude of sexism and misogyny’, market women as ‘sexual objects for male gratification’ and ‘show them as commodities’.
Baby Platinum’s lawyer Felicity Tulloch argued that club’s owners are very experienced and said it was the first time in eight years that they’d had an objection.
She argued that Ms Johnson’s objections stemmed from her general opposition to lap dancing clubs.
Councillors agreed to approve the licence for a further 12 months.
