Having just read the road test on the Triumph Speedmaster (MCN, May 9) I'm amazed to see that Jon Urry's final comment on the painfully uncomfortable bike was to get the comfort seat at £195 for a bike costing just short of £12,000. Frankly, I think it's an insult for a manufacturer to offer a "comfort seat" as an extra. Triumph managed to produce a very comfortable seat for the LT Thunderbird as standard, why not for the Speedmaster? Our willing acceptance of this thinking has led to the demise of the standard-fit centrestand and to manufacturers fitting inadequate suspension, knowing we will fork out on upgrades to make the bikes easy to live with and capable of long distances (which they should be already).
