Three cracking one-gallon rides

Three lochs and a winding road makes Dave Smith’s ride a thing of pure joy

-

This stunning short Scottish ride is a favourite of Dave Smith who often escapes work for an hour to enjoy this incredible assault on the senses.

He said: “The pleasure starts as soon as you leave Moffat. You are immediately into the hills and the road becomes decidedly adrenalin-inducing within a few miles. It’s a rollercoaster but is a pleasure to ride.

“Go past the Grey Mares Tail which can be seen from the road or you can stop at the parking area and take a photo. It is worth a stop at the Glens Café which overlooks the St Mary’s Loch. “The road narrows past a pair of reservoirs, so ride this road carefully. The best place for a pic is at the very top of Talla looking down on the reservoir. “The last leg of this route takes you South along the A701 known as the Scenic Route. It’s two-lane and fast but beware of some tight bends. Then you will ride alongside the Devils Beef Tub: a deep, dramatic hollow in the hills.”
