The se­cret of stay­ing lean as you age is in­side a co­conut

There’s no shy­ing away from it – as you age your me­tab­o­lism slows, mak­ing it harder to stay lean the older you get. But help could be at hand from co­conuts, ac­cord­ing to a new study pub­lished in the jour­nal Cell Me­tab­o­lism. Re­search at the Uni­ver­sity of Copen­hagen found that a diet high in medium-chain fatty acids – of which co­conut oil is one of the rich­est sources – post­poned age­ing pro­cesses in mice, in­clud­ing weight gain (a sep­a­rate Prince­ton Uni­ver­sity study has shown that ro­dents’ phys­i­cal re­sponses ac­cu­rately pre­dicts those of hu­mans). The fatty acids in co­conut oil also help to in­crease your lev­els of ‘good’ HDL choles­terol and re­duce the risk of high blood pres­sure. So for fat loss, use a high-in­ten­sity ket­tle­bell cir­cuit to fire up your me­tab­o­lism and let the co­conuts con­tinue the good work.
