TRAIN RIGHT

‘If you want to burn fat, don’t go too hard too fast oth­er­wise you’ll burn more carbs,’ says Bren­nan. ‘At the start of your run keep your heart rate at 100bpm, then build it by 10bpm ev­ery five min­utes. When you hit 140bpm, keep it there for 20 min­utes.’

2 USE FATS AS FUEL

‘En­cour­age your body to use fat as fuel through diet,’ says Bren­nan. ‘Eat foods with good fats such as oily fish, nuts and av­o­cado. Work out be­fore break­fast and use it to re­fuel.’

3 AVOID EN­ERGY DRINKS

‘Great for per­for­mance, aw­ful for fat burning,’ says Bren­nan. ‘They en­cour­age your body to use carbs. Drink co­conut wa­ter or add an elec­trolyte tablet to wa­ter.’
