– losing just 5% of your bodyweight can bring real health gains. That’s according to new research from Washington University in Missouri, which measured subjects given targets of 5%, 10% and 15% bodyweight loss. After losing 5% their insulin sensitivity improved, and their total body fat and liver fat decreased, reducing their risk of diabetes and heart disease. Continuing to 15% didn’t provide anything like the same benefits. “You get the biggest bang for your buck with 5% weight loss,” said study leader Samuel Klein. “You don’t have to lose 50lb to get important health benefits.” Suddenly it doesn’t seem such a challenge, does it?
