Size your bike Strad­dle the cross­bar with your feet flat on the ground. If there’s no clear­ance be­tween your crotch and the cross­bar, you need a smaller bike.

Raise the sad­dle

Open the quick-re­lease sad­dle lever and pull up the seat un­til the top is level with your hip. Check that you haven’t ex­ceeded the max­i­mum height and lock the sad­dle in place.

Test the height

Sit on the bike and, us­ing a wall for sup­port, ro­tate the ped­als to the ver­ti­cal po­si­tion. With the balls of your feet on the ped­als, the knee of your lower leg should be slightly bent. Ad­just the sad­dle again if nec­es­sary.

Find the fore/aft po­si­tion Ro­tate the ped­als un­til your feet are level and move the sad­dle for­wards or back­wards un­til your knee is di­rectly above the cen­tre of the pedal. Use a plumb line to help.
