SADDLE UP!

Size your bike Straddle the crossbar with your feet flat on the ground. If there’s no clearance between your crotch and the crossbar, you need a smaller bike.

Raise the saddle

Open the quick-release saddle lever and pull up the seat until the top is level with your hip. Check that you haven’t exceeded the maximum height and lock the saddle in place.

Test the height

Sit on the bike and, using a wall for support, rotate the pedals to the vertical position. With the balls of your feet on the pedals, the knee of your lower leg should be slightly bent. Adjust the saddle again if necessary.

Find the fore/aft position Rotate the pedals until your feet are level and move the saddle forwards or backwards until your knee is directly above the centre of the pedal. Use a plumb line to help.
