Take care of your stubble with beard care advice from artistic barber and grooming expert Carmelo Guastella

1 SHAPE UP

“To shape a short beard, start by shaving the chin and neck hair,” says Guastella. “Avoid defined lines – this will make it look too neat. I prefer a natural look and this is achieved by gradually using the lower clipper levels on the chin area to reduce the defined line on the chin.”

2 HEAD OFF DRYNESS

A stubbly face takes a little more time and effort to moisturise – but it’s worth it. “Shaving is a form of exfoliation and the moisturiser will cover the shaved area,” says Guastella. “With a short beard the moisture does not reach the skin as easily so it can become dry and itchy.”

3 CHECK YOUR NECK

“There is a stage after about a week when the hair stabs the skin, especially around the neck area, and that can make it feel itchy,” says Guastella. “It could also be a lack of moisture.” You may have facial hair but moisturising regularly still matters, so don’t get lazy.
