05 The Not-so Cheeky Nando’s

Despite its reputation for indulgence on the sly, when you want to hit your macros, Nando’s hits the mark. A half bird with macho peas and supergrain salad (£10.70) is the discerning man’s post-gym protein fix

There’s an argument to be made – and we’re making it – that Nando’s is the epitome of healthy-ish for the everyman gym-goer. So nutritious is its chicken (31g protein per 100g of bird) that it almost warrants a macro category of its own. So creamy is its glycogenrevitalising mash that it deserves its own menu. In short, this is bulking food, and there’s nothing wrong with going large.

For the definitive healthy-ish order, opt for a half chicken with a side of peas and supergrains (we’ll leave you to debate the sauce severity). We’re not saying there’s anything wrong with peri chips and garlic bread once in a while, but mixing it up with a variety of fibre-heavy grains benefits gut bacteria, leading to a whole host of boons – from sharper brain function to improved mood. And don’t worry – your usual lean turkey breasts will be waiting for you tomorrow, once you’re no longer winging it.
