Warhammer were a rare case of being an unashamed tribute band who almost managed to match up to their idols – in this case, Tom G Warrior’s Hellhammer. While they never truly reached the same level, their stubborn refusal to
countenance anything other than the archaic approach of
Apocalyptic Raids finally paid off on this, their fourth album, which was the last to feature founding member and sect leader Frank ‘Necros II’ Krynojewski. Even if there’s
very little progression to be found here – which was the whole point – Curse Of The
Absolute Eclipse took the more Hell hammer-than-Hell hammer themselves logic to its extreme conclusion, and has never been equalled since.
