You’re out with paradise lost and playing damnation. pallbearer’s been busy on the road this Year! how do You stay sane on a long tour?
JOE ROWLAND (BASS): “Who’s saying I’ve kept my sanity? We’ve stumbled upon our greatest achievement yet – watching professional wrestling in the van is the most entertaining thing ever! Devin [Holt, guitar] found a wrestling compilation DVD for 50 cents and it’s the most incredible thing that ever happened to us. We’ve spent the tour tracking down more DVDs but we’re now devising ways to incorporate ourselves into the wrestling world – either getting them to play our music or becoming wrestlers ourselves.”
what’s the strangest thing that’s happened at a pallbearer show?
“A guy spent 45 minutes telling me he’s invented something that’ll change the way we write music. He looked like he was about to cry. I’m curious what his invention was but at the time it scared me – he was so into it, he looked like he could stab me at any moment.”
tell us about the most memorable moment of Your touring Year so far
“We were in Montana on the day of the solar eclipse so we went to a park where people were gathering. This mom came up and singled out Brett [Campbell, vocals], asking him to join her family in a flash mob singing Total Eclipse Of The Heart, but Brett said no way. Five minutes later they start singing and pointing at Brett to join in but he just shrugged at them. It was one of the most embarrassing things we’ve ever seen.”
and how was touring with gojira?
“To say the very least it was inspiring playing with them, seeing a band functioning perfectly in front of you and they make it look so effortless. They’re one of the most professional bands, they always put on a jaw-dropping show every day, they’re really nice people and all of their crew were incredibly gracious to us. I can’t say enough good things about having the opportunity to tour with them and I really hope to do it again in the future.”
