Royal Navy sees off Russian warships in English Channel
A RUSSIAN warship and two support vessels are intercepted by the Royal Navy as they pass through the English Channel.
The corvette, pictured on the left, was part of a four-strong group of Russian ships, and included the submarine-hunting destroyer Vice Admiral Kulakov, which last passed through the Strait of Dover two weeks ago. It was intercepted by HMS Tyne and HMS Severn and shadowed through the Channel and into the North Sea.
Armed forces minister James Heappey said: ‘The Royal Navy’s offshore patrol vessels are proving their worth with yet another successful operation in defence of our home waters.’
