METRO 18 | | Friday, July 10, 2020 by TOM HITCHENOR A STUDENT has told how she discovered a housemate was secretly filming her in the bathroom after finding his iPhone hidden inside a metal box. The undergraduate became suspicious after noticing the container with a tiny hole in the accommodation shared by 15 University of Lincoln students. She said she would turn the locked box against the wall when she went to the toilet but it ‘would always soon be turned back to the original position’. The student, who has been given the pseudonym of Aubrey, spoke to a female friend who was also suspicious. The pair prised open the box with scissors and found a mobile phone inside with a place mat reading ‘Keep Calm I’m A University Student’. The male student, who owned the phone, later said his ‘little red box’ had gone missing from the bathroom, claiming it had his toothbrush inside. After confronting him, Aubrey took the phone to the police who found a video after asking the student to unlock his phone. ‘It was a video of myself and two other housemates on the toilet. The camera saw everything and it was so embarrassing. It was absolutely horrible,’ she told student news site The Tab. The student received a six-month suspended sentence after admitting voyeurism. He has to sign the sex offenders’ register for five years but is continuing his studies off-campus. ‘He seemed pretty decent, I never had any problems with him. I think that’s the thing that’s most shocking,’ Aubrey said. The University of Lincoln said it had ‘robust policies in place to deal with inappropriate behaviour’.
