A TEESSIDE specialist academy has received its best ever inspection report after major investment in its facilities.

Westlands Academy, in Thornaby, has received a “good” rating from Ofsted inspectors, with senior leaders praised for having high expectations for all pupils.

Pete Ewart, substantive principal, said the school recently made significant improvements to many of the school’s facilities including a new science lab and maths rooms through a £1.2m fund.

He said: “We are very proud of our good report and are happy for everyone involved. I came to the school in 2012 and it had been in some trouble as it needed improvement. It’s been a threeyear journey to finally get to where we are now.”

Elizabeth Horne, chief executive of Horizons Specialist Academy Trust, said the report was the best since being told it needed to improve.
