Thoroughbred win for Grangetown

Middlesbrough Herald & Post - - SPORT -

GRANGETOWN Netball Club consolidated their second position in National Premier League 3 with a 56 - 43 victory over Norwichbased Thoroughbreds on Sunday.

The visitors started well and it took until the final minute of the opening quarter before Grangetown took the lead for the first time.

By half-time the advantage had been extended to five, but the goals were shared during the third period and the result was still in doubt as the game entered the closing 15 minutes.

Grangetown’s superior fitness and intensity eventually broke Thoroughbreds’ resistance and Vicky Rees’ side drew away from their rivals to complete a fine win, and maintain the challenge on league leaders Sussex Thunder.

The defensive duo of Katie Walton and Jenny Mrozik kept the opposing shooters under constant pressure throughout; and the experience of Vicky Rees and Ria Small combined extremely well with the three teenagers who made up the Grangetown attack.

Kate Hill, Tasha Grylls and Abbie le Brocq all had fine games and the blend of youth and experience has quickly developed into a brand of dynamic netball that is very exciting and entertaining.

A case could have been made for any of the Grangetown seven to have been named Player of the Match, but the award went to 16-year old goal attack Tasha Grylls, for an impressive and mature performance.
