Judo young­sters take the hon­ours

A SMALL squad from Thorn­aby Pav­il­ion Judo Club, Thorn­aby re­cently went to the North­ern Area Judo Re­gional Schools Qual­i­fier re­cently and brought home two gold and one sil­ver medals.

Joseph Jack­son, aged 12, won gold in the Un­der 34kg Pre-Cadet Boys and also won the Un­der 38kg Pre-Cadet Boys cat­e­gory.

Liam Doody, 17, won a sil­ver medal in the un­der 73kg Ju­niors cat­e­gory de­spite a nose in­jury ac­quired on the day and Char­lie Kett, 15, also won gold, this time in the Un­der 63kg Cadet Boys cat­e­gory.

This means the Teesside Trio have now qual­i­fied for the 2017 Bri­tish Schools Judo Cham­pi­onships to be held in April at Sh­effield English In­sti­tute of sport.

Joe Glynn, for the club, said: “This was a marvel­lous start to the New Year” and “he was ex­tremely proud of the boys achieve­ments”.
